Home-based catechesis is just that, a way of catechizing (instructing, forming, teaching) your child in the home.
Over the years, there are more and more competing Sunday morning/weekend activites for your family to participate in, but we do not want sports, travel or other events to stand in the way of your child's religious education. You have already been given the responsibility by God as the primary catechist for your child - we just want to help you instruct your children in the faith.
We also believe this model of catechesis can ease some of the stress we have seen when parents are no longer together but share custody of their children. For those Sundays you cannot bring your child to the parish for R.E., we offer you an opportunity to teach your child in the home what he or she would have learned in class.
Online lesson plans are available to help parents teach each chapter. Simply click here (or visit aliveinchrist.osv.com/family/in_the_home/) to access the online lesson plans.
Just as our families who attend religious education at the parish are expected to attend weekly, we expected our home-based catechesis families to participate weekly. The weekly expectation is fulfilled by a completion of an online assessment that is electronically submitted to our Director of Religious Education, Michelle Ross.
To access the online assessment portal, click here (or visit aliveinchrist.osv.com/family/send_eassessment).
The chapter outline provided in the lefthand toolbar will help you to know what chapter should be submitted each week.
Our Sunday Visitor also gives us access to other online resources to help you teach in the home. They offer several games for the children to play to support their learning. They also offer online videos to help our parents grow in a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith.
